Presently, three novels are underway. However, it's a real
struggle to write a novel compared to writing short stories.
Short stories can be completed in a few hours to a few days;
novels are a much longer endeavor, often requiring considerable
research.
- Citrus White Gold is an historical novel about Citrus County, Florida
set in the period 1890-1910, with jumps back and forth to the year
2002. In a sense, it is a time travel novel. Certainly, the
influence of Jack Finney will be seen in this work. This is my most active project, requiring travel around the county, hanging out in the Citrus County Historical Society office, and reading the works of earlier historians.
- Miller Family History
(not necessarily the title) uses time travel and a time machine to
portray the history of the Miller/Bock family in a manner that attempts
to put life into genealogy. This is a big project. Included
will be a theory of time travel.
- Baggage is the story of Johnny Peebles, a baggage handler in the Greyhound BusStation
in St. Louis, Missouri. Set in the early 1960s, it portrays Johnny as
knowing very
little about the geography of the United States, yet he has the
responsibility of loading bags on buses. His unawareness of
where bags should be going seriously impacts the lives of a number
of
travelers, some of whose paths are destined to cross.
